Work, Play, Discover Central Highlands

Work, Play, Discover Central Highlands

An exciting short film showcasing the Central Highlands’ fantastic lifestyle has premiered today.

Work, Play, Discover Central Highlands has been produced for the Central Highlands Development Corporation (CHDC) as part of its campaign to grow the region.

The movie, which is five minutes long, can be viewed here. It was launched at today’s Economic Futures Forum in Emerald.

The vibrant production blends beautiful imagery and an upbeat soundtrack with testimonials from proud residents on why the region is a great place to live and work.

“Drawing skilled people to regional communities is one of the major challenges in building sustainable regions,” CHDC General Manager Sandra Hobbs says.

“In the 2018 Central Highlands Business Confidence Survey, two thirds of respondents rated ‘difficulty attracting and retaining skilled employees’ as an important or very important challenge to their business operations and growth.

“It comes down to a lack of awareness of what regional communities have to offer or, in some cases, a misconception that they don’t offer enough.

“To tackle that, this campaign will aim to raise the profile of the Central Highlands and increase awareness of the facilities, services, activities and opportunities we have here.”

To complement the short film, the CHDC website also profiles some of its stars, including Elizabeth Valer, who emigrated from Peru to Emerald, and Cassie Turner, a young agronomist who’s embraced the region’s outdoor lifestyle.

Ms Hobbs strongly encourages everyone, especially employers, to share the video far and wide.

“After 40 hours of shooting, plus many more hours engaging with 30 businesses, community groups and residents, we’re very proud of the final product,” she says.

“The feedback so far is that it’s the ideal advertisement for the Central Highlands because it perfectly encapsulates all that is good about our region.”

The film, which has been professionally shot and produced by Digital Black, is in a similar style to 2017’s Central Highlands Agriculture – More Than You Expect! video, which received major exposure across social media.

Work, Play, Discover Central Highlands aligns with the Central Highlands Economic Master Plan’s (CHEMP) 30-year vision for the region, which includes a highly skilled, local workforce that supports our industries to adapt and grow in a changing environment.
