Camping in the Carnarvon Gorge visitor area is available during the Easter, June-July and September-October Queensland school holidays.

The Big Bend camping area, reached by a 19.4km return walk, is currently closed until 30 September 2025 due to toilet damage (check QLD National Parks site for updates) and is often closed during the bushfire season (summer) .

Camping permits are essential and bookings can be made online on the QLD National Parks website or in-person at the Central Queensland Highlands Visitor Information Centre.

Privately-run accommodation at the entrance of the park is available all year round. Click on images below for more information.

It is recommended you book accommodation in advance as it can fill quickly during peak periods.

Alternative accommodation is available at Rolleston (100km), and Springsure (170km). For self-sufficient campers, there is also nearby Nuga Nuga National Park (125km, unsealed).
