A new mine in the Galilee Basin could provide a new employment opportunity for Central Highlands residents.
The State Government has given conditional approval to AMCI and Bandanna Energy’s South Galilee Coal Project, which will be 12km south west of Alpha and create about 1300 full time, long-term jobs.
The proponents say they’re committed to hiring local people, and are considering a Bus In Bus Out option for Emerald workers, and Fly In Fly Out options for other regional centres.
Meantime, investment attraction activities, a supply chain gap review and regional industry development plans are part of a major strategy to grow Queensland’s resources sector.
The State Government says its 30-year ResourcesQ action plan will drive economic growth, develop the regions and create new jobs for decades to come.
