Gemfest – Anakie

It’s all about the bling… And much more!

Back in 1988, as part of the Australian Bicentennial celebrations, Gemfest – Festival of Gems was founded.

Led by Pat Gregory and other business and community volunteers, the inaugural event in 1988 was a huge success, with profits raised donated to the Royal Flying Doctor Service.

From there, Gemfest went from strength to strength, with a team of dedicated volunteers supported by passionate community, business and local government leaders. The annual festival became Australia’s largest sapphire exhibition, showcasing millions of dollars worth of precious stones.

This premier event has been instrumental in putting the Sapphire Gemfields on the map as a must-visit destination and stands as a testament to the unique treasures and colourful community spirit of the region.
