The Central Queensland Highlands destination of Sapphire Gemfields has earned its very own episode of TV show Back Roads.

The ABC visited the region in late 2023 and the finished product went to air in February 2024.

• Gemfields Mardi Gras Parade – a mini version of Sydney’s annual Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras
• The art of specking and uncovering a ‘leaverite’ (watch the short video clip on this page to find out more!)
• Some of the world’s most famous and precious sapphires, including one named Eiffel Tower
• Scaling Policeman’s Knob for serenity and sunsets
• Most of all, the people of the Gemfields, aka Gemmies!
