Drag n Dine Show to hit New Royal Hotel Rubyvale

Colourful fun is going to light up the New Royal Hotel Rubyvale this week as Brisbane based multi-award-winning drag cabaret entertainer, Wanda D’Parke brings her flamboyant show back to the Central Queensland Highlands community.

Following a successful visit to the Gemfields three years ago, the Queensland Drag Hall of Fame performer stunned crowds with her glitzy glamour.

New Royal Hotel publicans Wendy and Bruce MacFarlane were so impressed by Wanda and the way locals embraced her earlier show that they have asked the drag artist to return.

“Initially, we were a little nervous to bring such a unique type of entertainment to our pub, but locals and visitors loved Wanda and so this weekend, we are excited for her return for our Friday charity night Blingo which raises funds for Leukaemia Research and a special Drag n Dine spectacular on the Saturday,” Wendy said.

“Many of the guests coming along are making a full weekend of the show and staying in the Hotel’s log cabins, which will be great for our local economy.”

Ross Waghorn (aka Wanda) is the breakout star of the recent SBS/Flick Chicks ‘dragumentary’ Bowled Over, which debut in January as part of the series Untold Australia. It featured an eclectic troupe of queens who rescued North Ipswich Bowls Club from financial ruin almost a decade ago, thanks largely to the spectacular success of their monthly drag show – Taboo.

Although classed as a ‘mature’ drag sensation, Ross says he’s making up for lost time. Held back by body image issues, Ross, in recent years took steps to lose someone he refers to as ‘fat Wanda’ as he returned to his hometown of Biloela. “I’m totally going for it and want to take the girl from Bilo on the road around Australia before ultimately hitting the stage at West End in London,” Ross said.

In the meantime, he is thrilled to be appearing again this weekend at the New Royal Hotel Rubyvale.
