Big milestone for visitor servicing volunteer

Congratulations to Glen Wass for reaching his 20th anniversary as a volunteer for the Visitor Information Centre (VIC) in Emerald.

Glen is much-loved for the warm welcome he gives to all travellers, the many hours of time he donates, and his encyclopedic knowledge.

Glen is originally from Rosewood (near Ipswich) and moved to Emerald 42 years ago to continue to work for Queensland Rail. After he retired, Glen started his visitor servicing journey in February 2003.

“He is a very knowledgeable and helpful volunteer who knows a lot about the region and enjoys talking to tourists and cracking a good joke,” VIC Coordinator Pamela Gangadoo says.

“At times when the centre is short staffed, Glen goes the extra mile to fill additional volunteering shifts – working at least three times a week and even staying longer than required, just to ensure we were covered for the day.

“When there are no tourists in the centre, you will often find Glen reading about another region, as he enjoys learning about other experiences Queensland-wide.

“Glen is a truly wonderful asset to our Visitor Information Centre.”

We pulled together a quick video in tribute to Glen but he coincidentally also recently made a cameo appearance in Living Proof, a TV show produced for over-50s lifestyle resort company GemLife. You can watch both clips below.
