A trio of TV appearances

The Central Queensland Highlands’ Sapphire Gemfields has had three moments in the television spotlight lately!

ONE: GEM HUNTERS DOWN UNDER

Season 2 of Gem Hunters Down Under is now showing on 7Mate, starting with the premiere episode on Tuesday, 3 October.

The reality TV show was filmed on the Gemfields and is described as following “the highs and lows of a community of sapphire hunters who work under extreme conditions in the heart of Central Queensland”.

Production for a second season began following the debut season’s strong performance last year.

TWO: BACK ROADS

ABC Australia’s Back Roads TV show visited the region on the King’s Birthday long weekend to film the annual Sapphire Gemfields Mardi Gras.

The episode is expected to screen over summer.

THREE: GETAWAY

Channel 9’s Getaway presenter David Whitehill and cameraman Roger Price recently called into the Sapphire Gemfields town of Rubyvale to film stories for the Dig the Tropic geo-tourism trail.

Following the Tropic of Capricorn, the self-drive trail calls into stops at various ancient events and is the only known trail of its kind in the world.

Miners Heritage, Rubyvale Gem Gallery and the New Royal Hotel were part of the TV shoot and the episodes will go to air next year.

Our neighbours at Mt Hay Gemstone Tourist Park, Capricorn Caves and Capricorn Dinosaur Park Yepoon will also be in the show.

The initiative is being led by Capricorn Enterprise, thanks to a Tourism and Events Queensland grant and a funding partnership with Central Highlands Development Corporation (CHDC) and Outback Qld Tourism Association (OQTA).
